Periodically, the Life Insurance group at American Express compiles
a comprehensive set of products and services, and
conducts advisor training sessions throughout the year on those products.
As the product and service offerings grow, so does the complexity
of the training. To facilitate convenient and self-directed leader
training, the group initiated the development of an interactive CD-ROM
program with the multi-media division of American Express, Electronic
Media Group.
The Electronic Media Group is a fully functional multi-media developer, but they do not
specialize in large-scale print projects. Having worked with us before on packaging for
conference materials, EMG approached us to fulfill what would become a comprehensive Leader's
Guide training manual, and CD-ROM packaging. We worked in conjunction with EMG to develop the
design concept and production plan to stay within their budget expectations and give them design
treatments that would convert well into multi-media. Working as a team, we met with, and presented
concepts directly to key individuals from the Life Insurance group. Using their feedback, we refined
our concepts to function well for the leaders; the final configuration is a double-coil loop bound
notebook with tab divider pages, and the CD-ROM packaging (containing 3 CDs) tipped into the back cover.
The particular challenge of this project was not only to design within the well-known American
Express corporate brand, but also within a newly launched brand program for the Life Insurance
group, including their own signature colors, type styles, and design components. The end result is
a functional, appealing, and highly instructional set of training materials.
